If the idea of a pearl choker makes you yawn, allow me to change your mind.

Pearls are fabulous and with a little imagination can be chic, effortless, even sexy. After all, Coco Chanel wasn't exactly boring, was she?!

I love pearls in hues of gray--because getting away from white already breaks the mold.

These lustrous coin pearls are gorgeous. Not colored, so they have loads of natural variation. And best of all, they sit beautifully against your skin.

I've knotted them on gray silk and added a rolled gold bolt clasp from the 1920s. You can wear the clasp in the front as a center piece, add a large pendant or multiple charms, or double wrap the pearls around your wrist as a statement bracelet.

Just remember, put on your perfume first and let it evaporate. The alcohol in most fragrances will dull the luster of pearls.
